FCA Segment Firsts

Throughout the years, FCA continues to make waves in the segment with 116 firsts. Of these innovations, 38 came from the Pacifica lineup. Let's look at a few of the major milestones. In 1984, FCA was the first company to offer a front-wheel-drive minivan. Later in the 1980s, FCA also offered the first minivan with a selection of engines and a long-wheelbase model.

During the 1990s, FCA released the first minivan with a standard driver-side airbag, the first center high-mounted brake light, and four-wheel anti-lock brakes. These innovations proved that FCA cared about customers' safety. Additionally, during that decade, the automaker released the segment's first integrated child seat, dynamic side-impact protection, dual-zone temperature control, and windshield wiper de-icers.

Moving into the new century, FCA released the first 6.4-inch LCD screen in minivans, wireless headphones, and power dual sliding doors. These are also the years when the engines started offering more than 210 horsepower and a 180-degree rotating third-row DVD monitor was introduced.
